This is overdue, but things have been crazy so here is the latest on our "Spotted B". Friday March 19th Brooklyn woke up from a nap in the afternoon and had a slight rash almost looked like heat rash. It slowly got worse over the course of the evening so I sent Danny to get some Benadryl. Saturday morning she woke up with welts, hives all over and the back of her neck was swollen. I called the Pediatrician on call and took her in that morning. Instantly he knew it was an Amoxicillian allergy, she had a double ear infection 2 weeks before and was on day 10 of her antibiotics. He said give her Bendaryl 4 times a day for today and maybe Sunday she will be better in a few days.(The picture above was taken Sunday morning)
Well she did not eat much Saturday and did not nap at all, Bendaryl DOES NOT make her TIRED. Lucky us!! She was not getting any better so we knew we would have to take her back to the doctors Monday. We tried Oatmeal and Epson Salt baths, nothing would soothe her. So by 11pm Sunday night her eyes were almost swollen shut, her hands and feet were so swollen that they started cracking and bleeding. She would just cry and ITCH like crazy. I was itching just looking at her. We decided to take her to the ER to get relief for all of us. They took us right in.
As you can tell by her face she was miserable. She needed an IV with 3 different medications to help her.
It took me holding her legs down with my legs, Danny and 2 nurses to hold her down to put in the IV. They tried her arm, but the vein just kept rolling so they finally put it in her hand. As soon as they finished they put the cover over it and she ripped it off and Danny and I tackled her before she reached for the IV. It was not a fun experience and do not wish this upon any parents.
Drugs finally working, she got about a half hour of sleep.
IV was taken out and she was not to happy about the bandage. We got home at about 1:30 am and she was a little wired so we put her in her crib to talk herself to sleep. Now she is on Steroids and Bendaryl/Zyrtex everyday for the next 3 weeks. Steroids are not fun they make her happy then MOODY. She is not my sweet fun little girl when she is drugged up. She is getting better everyday we have gone almost a week now with very little spots and have been slowly lowering the dosage of medications every 3 days.
I am so grateful that we have the abilities to go to the doctors and get help when we need it. I feel so fortunate that Brooklyn has been a healthy child and we have only had minor things to deal with. Thank you to the family and friends that called and came by to see how she was doing. Your support is always appreciated.
2 more days!!
